Summit Brewing’s Nialas Latitude Lager is a bit of an oddball. It’s enjoyable in its own way, but if you’re expecting a traditional lager, you might be in for a surprise.

Can Art

The design is fun and summery—there’s a guy holding a pin flag on what looks like a golf course, except he’s actually on a pier overlooking a lake. It doesn’t totally make sense, but it does a great job of evoking warm weather and lazy summer days.

Look

This is where things start to get weird. Very pale and slightly cloudy, it looks more like a hard cider than a beer. Definitely not what you’d expect from a standard lager.

Smell

None. Literally nothing. On the plus side, at least it doesn’t smell bad.

Mouthfeel

Pleasantly smooth with decent carbonation. Nothing mind-blowing, but it drinks well.

Taste

A light, crushable beer that’s easy to enjoy. If I were spending a day on the lake or lounging in the sun, a six-pack of this would fit right in. It’s refreshing and drinkable, just not what you’d expect from a lager.

Final Verdict

Nice and light with good drinkability, but there’s a definite disconnect—it doesn’t really deliver on the classic lager characteristics. If you’re okay with that, it’s a solid warm-weather option.
