Trail Pass Hazy IPA by Sierra Nevada leaves a lot to be desired. There are very few beers I can’t finish, but this is one.
Packaging
The turquoise and yellow colors, paired with a topographic map pattern, don’t inspire much excitement. It’s a functional look, but it doesn’t exactly shout “drink me!”
Look
The hazy appearance is appealing enough, but the weak head and lack of lacing leave it feeling incomplete.
Smell
The aroma kicks off with pleasant citrusy hop notes, which is promising, but sadly, that’s where the excitement mostly ends.
Mouthfeel
I found it over-carbonated and lighter in body than anticipated. It’s a bit fizzy, overshadowing what could be a more substantial experience.
Taste
Here’s where things get tricky—the flavor is puzzling. There’s a strange artificial note I can’t quite pin down, along with hints of pine and citrus hop flavors, but it also tastes a bit like raw wort. Overall, it just feels off.
Final Verdict
Trail Pass is a one-and-done for me. There are far better hazy options out there.
