Despite some redeeming qualities, The Story Double IPA doesn’t quite hit the mark. Building an NA Double IPA on a West Coast foundation seems ambitious, but here, it falls short; the non-alcoholic base struggles to support the hop intensity, leading to that unmistakable NA flavor.
Can Art
The can features multicolored graffiti with words like “compassion,” “kindness,” and “dream.” It’s mildly interesting but doesn’t captivate.
Look
The picture makes it look more golden. In real life, it’s more brown, a little too brown for my taste. On the plus side, it boasts a nice head.
Smell
Decent hops on the nose, but the NA hops smell is definitely present. I’m getting a sense of foreboding about what’s to come in the taste department.
Mouthfeel
Quite pleasant with good carbonation; it’s a bit abrasive, which aligns with expectations for a West Coast DIPA.
Taste
Unfortunately, the taste confirms initial concerns. The overwhelming NA hop flavor overshadows any potential complexity.
Final Verdict
The Story Double IPA doesn’t meet the high standards Go Brewing has set with their other offerings. While it has its moments, it’s not one I’d revisit.
